Energy-Efficient Buildings + Sustainable Design

For the City of Novato Public Works Department, we provided full architectural services for the design of a new Administrative offices and locker room facilities*. We incorporated many energy-efficient elements into the building design. We also provided a research report on sustainable design options as part of our services.

Key Project Considerations
Kappe Architects
+ Incorporating energy-efficient elements into the building design
Kappe Architects
+ Providing new offices, conference rooms, locker room and workspace for 45 city employees
Kappe Architects
+ The vehicle maintenance portion of the existing building currently serves a fleet of over 100 vehicles and could expand into space now occupied for other uses

Project Successes Achieved Through Design
Kappe Architects
+ Green architectural features include the use of awning sunscreens, low emission glass, “cool” roofs, metal building and metal cladding for long lifecycle and reduction of wood products in the building
Kappe Architects
+ The building has an under-floor air supply plenum making the building more economical and efficient by heating primarily the lower area of the workspaces
Kappe Architects
+ We designed a 32 Kw Photovoltaic panel system to be mounted atop a future three-sided equipment storage structure
Kappe Architects
+ The adjoining marshland provides a nice amenity and is viewable from many spots in the building
